  1. Thanks for the notes, wanted to ask if you can post the topic wise IGNOU list for Socio paper II. I have the IGNOU notes with me and it's quite a task to find out from where to study.

  4. First of all hearty congratulations on your success and a big thanks for taking pains to guide the rest of the flock!
I was wondering what are your sources for the notes, in case one wishes a elaborate understanding of some topic. I have also prepared some notes for paper-1 from here and there but yours' are totally on a different league. Can you please also help out with paper-2. Paper-2 is very vast and even after reading the usual stuff you get bouncers like SEZ, women in IT, etc. How to handle such questions and is there any source for contemporary studies we can refer to?

  6. Sir please tell good reference book/ source for new topics in Socio paper 2, that can be completed in less time because I have to appear in this mains.
Also, I don't find any good reference for Ethnicity and Identity movements, Kinship topics in Paper 2. Is there any book which covers Kinship, marriage etc of Paper 1 and simultaneously covers Paper 2?
    Thanks

  7. sir,can u please specify what does the term UIAS in your notes refer
to?(have been refered quite a few times in your posted notes)?

    1. UIAS is a coaching institute in Delhi for Sociology. These notes are easily available in many xerox shops

    2. UIAS = upendra IAS - I had planned to scan through their notes at the end for some topics (which is why you see those reference points in my notes) - but they turned out to be pretty much useless. I would advise you to stay away from them.

    3. Thanx for your guidance sir..however it is very surprising and confusing that some of the succesful candidates speak very highly of UIAS..WHEREAS A LOT MANY DO NOT RECOMEND THEM AT ALL!!

    4. On the contrary, I don't think it is surprising at all. This exam is such that no single strategy can be efficacious for everyone. What is useful to one may be pretty much useless to another. Ultimately, you have to employ your wisdom and prudence in zeroing in on the matter that you want to read for the exam. You may read all that I have recommended and not clear the exam, you may not read anything that I've recommended and come out with flying colours. Hope you got the import of my message.

  10. Kshitij sir,
i second to you regarding your views, In my (short) spell of preparation i have come across quite an indepensable list of books
recommended by succesful candidates, but majority of them were found to out of sync with the exam,on the contrary a thing as trivial as a newspaper editorial or an article in a magazine seemed to be immensly useful from exam point of view

  18. Guys

Sorry for the late response - have been really tied up in training. I just want to make the following clarifications -
    1. I did not make any elaborate notes for Socio Paper - 2. Keep in mind that the case studies given in IGNOU BA notes are very important. In order to ascertain what to read, I am afraid you'll have to sit with the syllabus and previous years' papers. Do not go for too many books. For social movements, there are a few booklets in IGNOU political science - they are much simpler than books like G. Shah. Remember - you are reading to pass the exam, not to prepare a dissertation in sociology.

    2. I must clarify it again that inability to join a coaching institute does not translate into inability to clear the exam. It didn't for me. Just go for it. Stop worrying and start reading. I have already mentioned the books and other resources in my previous posts. Hope it helps.

    Cheers & All the best

    KT

  20. hello sir ; my self Mayursinh Chauhan; i am also in the race of CSE-2014. I just want to ask you that 1.) it is crystal clear that by reading so many things it may be possible that what we have is simply more then what will be asked so sir how we should manage our answers? 2.) what according to you , examiner is observing out of our answersheet, which will inclind to give good marks? 3.) in paper 1; are we just require to give views of only sociologists; like on any topic say; sociology and economics; so should we also put our thoughts ? 4.) lasr and very imp. any other suggestion or any mistake that you have observed in your self or in any of your friend; and ofcourse remedies for that mistake ?
i hope to see you soon. thanxs.
